Morgan Calton

Why Fulham?

My first game was against Doncaster Rovers in September 1995. My stepdad brought me along as Donny was his hometown team and he hadn’t watched them for years. Fulham won 3-1 and I was hooked. My 2nd game was the 7-0 cup win vs Swansea, so basically, we were clearly the best team ever, even if it was the season we hit 91st in the league…

Favourite match?

Wasn’t in the country for the Great Escape or the Europa run sadly so I always go with Fulham 3-2 Spurs. A fairly insignificant match in the grand scheme of things – somewhat soiled by taking place at the tin outhouse down the road – but was just such a great comeback after being 2-0 down at halftime and winning it in the 95th!

Favourite goal?

Seen so many belters in the past but always go back to Pesch’s at Liverpool for the pure cheek of being a Div 2 side doing that Anfield.

Favourite season?

2000/01. Having watched the dross under Bracewell the season before, it was like eating a perfectly cooked fillet steak after 9 months of nothing but cold baked beans out of a can.

Favourite current and/or ever player?

Simon Morgan. A proper leader even if he was apparently a moody sod. In a nice way.

What made you get involved with the walk?

I’d done a couple of away day cycles with Lee last season in support of CALM (to Wigan: awful 0-0; and Brighton: 2-1 comeback loss) and was very keen to get involved with another challenge (hopefully better result this time). The cause is also very close to my heart, having suffered from depression and anxiety in the past and it’s great to be involved with something that is pushing the message that it’s ok to talk so hard, as well as raising money for such a great charity!

How’s training going?

I have a very busy job and a 9-month-old. You do the maths. Thinking of putting a treadmill in my office…

If you could pick one person from Fulham past or present to walk the final few miles with you who would it be & why?

Papa Bouba Diop because he could carry me without thinking about it.

You’re going to need a few tunes to keep you going. Which artist features most on your playlist and what’s your guilty pleasure song?

I’m a metal head through and through (minus the tattoos), so will be putting a decent amount of Iron Maiden, WASP and Five Finger Death Punch. Sure, the others will be delighted! May whack out some Backstreet Boys if we need a bit of 90s boyband motivation.

Will you make kick-off?

Even if I’m bleeding from each of my toes, I will be there! Likely I’ll be in the same state as Charlie Sheen’s plane at the end of Hot Shots by then.

What luxury item will you be taking with you?

Anti-Chafing cream!!!

What’s going to be the toughest part of this whole experience?

Either breaking through that mental barrier when the blisters start kicking in or not seeing my 10-month-old daughter for 4 days. Who am I kidding, definitely the latter!

Finally, Pie or Pasty, which filling?

Meat- filled! None of that veggie nonsense!
