FPL Focus: Gameweek 9 and 10

Welcome back to our FPL Focus article, where we discuss everything FPL based. In this article, we will be exploring some defensive options who could score you some vital points in the coming two weeks/month, review how our previous weeks and start of the season tips have played out and explore who is doing well in our Focus league.

Finally, back after the international break, it’s been a week longer than usual for my next article, so let’s run through our first section of the season-long tips and previous two gameweeks’ tips, as always its good to check how my tips are progressing.

Aubameyang

Points – 43

Upcoming matches – Leicester (H), Palace (A).

Aubameyang is flying at the moment, with him and Lacazette up top the sky seems the limit for the duo. Unfortunately, it was Fulham who suffered last weekend and even though Aubameyang only featured for a part of the second half, he ended up gaining 15 points.

Bernado Silva

Points – 35

Upcoming matches – Burnley (H), Spurs (A).

Only 5 points in his previous two game weeks, still a mainstay in Pep’s team which says a lot in itself. A great cheap option to still look at bringing in if you want a Man City player in your side.

Andros Townsend

Points – 18

Upcoming matches – Everton (A), Arsenal (H).

Andros cannot seem to find any form in fantasy football right now, whilst playing OK for the side, he’s just not picking up points in a team who are not scoring many themselves. I would personally look at other options for the meantime whilst they have a VERY hard run of games coming up.

Last Article’s Captain Choices

Gameweek 7 – Richarlison

Points – (3 without captaincy).

The goals were spread throughout the team against Fulham on this gameweek, the start of a couple bad captaincy choices for the article after two storming weeks previously.

Gameweek 8 – Harry Kane

Points – (1 without captaincy)

Firing in only one point against a weak Cardiff City team at home is not great for a striker of Kane’s calibre, personally, I captained Aubameyang (I do not own Kane) which softened the blow for me on Sunday, but would have captained Kane had there been the choice in my team.

Bargain Buys

We will now look at how our ‘bargain buys’ section of players that we had chosen at the start of the season and see how they are performing, these will not necessarily be the highest scorers, but great squad fillers who have the capability to step up for a low value.

Joe Gomez

Price – £5.1 million (risen by £0.1 million)

Points – 33

Upcoming fixtures – Huddersfield (A), Cardiff (A).

With the possibility of Van Dijk not playing because of picking up an injury on the international break, Gomez is a great pick at a great price with some very easily winnable games for Liverpool coming up.

Lewis Cook

Price – £5 million (dropped to £4.8 million)

Points – 9

Upcoming fixtures – Southampton (H), Fulham (A).

Cook has over doubled his points tally in the last two weeks, finally starting matches. If you changed to Mendy, he has also picked up 5 points in the last two weeks.

We shall keep a tab on both of these.

Cenk Tosun

Price – £7 million (dropped to £6.7 million)

Points – 22

Upcoming fixtures – Palace (H), United (A).

6 points in his last two gameweeks, very slow start for Tosun, but Everton fans are happy with his performances so the points should come.

Josh King

Price – £6.5 million (dropped to £6.4 million)

Points 42

Upcoming fixtures – Southampton (H), Fulham (A).

15 points in his last two weeks, Josh is finally finding his goalscoring form!

Looking Ahead to the Next Two Weeks

Who to transfer in?

Wow, what a pick we have had in our last article! Matt Doherty, take a bow, 27 points in just two game weeks, I hope some of you got on this pick that I had advised!

With this success happening, I am about to give you a couple more defensive options to put into your team to help you score high. The 6’s for a clean sheet really rack up your points tally.

Alexander Arnold / Andrew Robertson – Either of these are a great pick right now, Liverpool have a great run of fixtures coming up and with their new-found defensive solidity this season any defender from Liverpool is a good pick. Whilst I would usually tip Gomez as I rate him very highly, I’ve gone against him for now, this decision is purely made due to the effect Liverpool’s wing-backs have on the match. Alexander Arnold is the cheaper option at £5.2 million whilst Robertson is £1.1 million more expensive, this is for a fairly good reason though as Robertson has picked up 13 points more.

Lewis Dunk – Whilst Brighton are conceding some of the highest shots on their goal this season, it’s insane not to get a defensive player in right now. Their fixture list is insanely good and as we all know Brighton can keep a lot of clean sheets!

Dunk is only £4.4 million which is an absolute STEAL. They have 8 ‘winnable’ games coming up before they face Chelsea at home on 16th December.

Who to Captain

Gameweek 9 – Mitrovic.

HE’S HERE. It’s time to captain Mitro! This is a fairly brave move considering Liverpool are playing Huddersfield away and Man City are playing Burnley at home and one of their players would usually get the captaincy for a fixture of that ease, but, I’m an optimist. My optimism is telling me to captain our man Mitrovic. I’ve got a great feeling we are going to click into a higher gear in Wales this weekend.

Gameweek 10 – Liverpool player (for my team, Firmino).

This seems a regular pattern, picking a player who is playing Cardiff, crikey it’s almost getting boring now but its so damn hard to avoid. This doesn’t need too much detail, captain a Liverpool player!

Which teams have the easiest fixtures in the coming month?

Check out these following teams who have easy fixtures in this coming month, who will also have cheap players.

Wolves, Brighton, Liverpool.

Which teams to avoid having players from for now?

Whilst looking at who we should bring it, it’s important to know who to take them out for, so these teams following will have a hard fixture list in the coming months:

Crystal Palace – a real stinker of a run coming up.

Tottenham – whilst they have some good fixtures in these coming months, there’s simply not enough of them, with the value of their players you’re better off spending it elsewhere.

Fulham Focus League

Leaders

1 – Paul Gabb 575 points.

Paul keeps his lead at the very top! A brilliant month or so for him.

2 – Callum Sims 568 points.

New contestant in second, Callum has been scoring well recently through players such as Hazard, Patricio and Richardson.

3 – George Currie 565 points.

Another new contestant joining the top of the pack. George has a solid team, Wilson, Alonso and Trippier have been scoring well for him lately.

Time for a little humble brag, I am gaining on you all and currently sit in 8th. Gaining the most points in the entire league last game week. Watch out!

Important Tip

I will keep repeating this coming part!

Do NOT jump into anything hastily, keep your Wildcard (unless you have an injury crisis or are really behind the leaders), save your triple captain for a double gameweek AND try and keep your bench boost for a week where all of your players will start and play against appealing opposition. Trust me, there will be one week which sticks out above the rest and you’ll be gutted if you shoot too early.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to writing the sixth article in 2 weeks time! – @lukealele.
